My Follow Up to Yesterday: Which of the Mainstream Media Outlets Reported on the ACORN Prostitution Story Today?

Yesterday afternoon I spent several hours being totally frustrated and angry.  It all started with the ACORN story, but quickly my aggravation began to stem from something else: the mainstream media’s complete refusal to cover or even mention the story.  That quickly began the bigger deal to me.

To follow up my posts from yesterday about the blatant media bias, I did my rounds on the internet to check and see if CNN, MSNBC, and others had posted anything at all on their websites.  I figure a day and a half is more than enough to have your say, right?   Here’s what I found:

  • CNN- CNN posted a story on their website at around 9 AM CST.  The articles’s headline stated that ACORN employees had “allegedly” been caught advising a prostitute, but the actual body of the article was good, fair, and didn’t try to sugar coat anything.  CNN did, however, give Joe Wilson’s “You Lie” outburst precedence over the ACORN scandal by putting it as the featured story.  CNN earns a 6.5 out of 10 Elephants for their coverage.
  • MSNBC- This is a most deplorable network.  As of now (1 PM CST), they have yet to mention a word of this story on their website.  Their lead story is the anniversary of 9/11, wich is definitely worthy news.  However, ignoring the ACORN issue is not acceptable.  As expected, MSNBC earns 0 out of 10 Elephants for their non-coverage.
  • ABC- I was unable to find any word of the story on any of their news show websites, such as Nightline and Primetime, but their websites are rather hard to navigate so I could have missed it.  Until further inspection, they remained unrated.
  • NBC- Their Dateline website was devoid of any coverage of the story.  Their featured stories were the same as those on MSNBC.com.  NBC is awarded 0 out of 10 Elephants for their non-coverage.
  • AOL News- I realize this isn’t an official news source, but it is the number 1 internet home page in the world.  So it does have some effect.  I thought surely they’d put the story as the feature, but they opted out and instead talked about the “What Gender is She??” controversy surrounding that runner.  The ACORN story was listed as the second story in “Also in the Headlines” on the main news slide, and while it’s good it was on the main page, the article itself is very poor in quality.  A two line paragraph gives the bare bones of what happened, and it is then followed by ACORN’s rebuttle and comments on the two journalists who filmed them.  Better still is the fact that the ACORN story was featured along with Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” outburst.  It was 5 short paragraphs of ACORN and then as soon as it finished it said in bold “Quote of the Week”, then went on to talk about Joe Wilson.  How these two are in anyway related is beyond me.  AOL gets a 4.5 out of 10 for mentioning it, but not really reporting it as its own story.

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this own my lunch break today, but for some reason it didn’t post so I just resubmitted it.  If any of the information has changed, please let me know so I’m not spreading lies.  Also, it’s my understanding that AOL took the story completely off their main page, or any of the “Featured” slides.  Unacceptable.

What do you think of this blatant disregard to real journalism?  Have these networks forgotten their jobs? Remember, it’s our responsibility to stand up and do what’s right for this country.  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

The Big Glenn Beck Story: ACORN Giving A Prostitute Tax Evading Advice, Caught on Tape!

I wonder if these people are prostitutes on the side?

I wonder if these people are prostitutes on the side?

I raced home early today to watch today’s episode of Glenn Beck because I simply couldn’t wait to watch it tonight.  I Googled the scandal today during lunch and was pretty shocked at what I saw.  I’ve known ACORN was corrupt since we started hearing about their “work” a few years ago, but I never knew they were this corrupt.  I don’t know if this is an isolated incident (I mean I imagine they don’t get too many clients like this), but if the prostitute’s request went through this time without a hitch, I can’t imagine what other evasion they’ve guided along.

For those that don’t know what’s going on (Unless you watch Fox News or have Googled the scandal directly, you probably don’t) here’s a little recap:  Two aspiring journalists went into ACORN’s Baltimore office acting as a pimp and a prostitute in order to get tips on how to cheat their taxes, among other things.  Much to even my surprise, the two ACORN employees helped the two on everything they asked.  And though one did at one point say that their actions were illegal (She then said that she wouldn’t tell anyone, she didn’t even know as far as anyone else was concerned), the other encouraged her along and told her not to be ashamed of anything she did.  That’s pretty much the bare-bones of the story.

This is a real problem.  I’m not linking Barack Obama to this event in any way, but his ties to ACORN are deep: he used to be a lawyer for them and in December of 2007 he told a gathering of ACORN members that their input would be used during his term in office.  Not only that, but ACORN was listed in the stimulus package for a nice sum of nearly $10 billion.  So let’s sort this out one more team: a government funded organization that has full support of our COMMANDER IN CHIEF gives tax cheating advice to prostitutes.  That’s pretty much all there is to say.

I’m sure more revelations will present themselves before this story runs its course.  However, if you want to see anything at all about the developments you’ll have to tune into Fox News.  I’m not just saying that because Fox News is the only cable news channel that reports the news.  I’m saying it because as I type this post, the only news channel that has reported even one word about it is Fox News.  Not one mention by CNN, MSNBC, HLN, or any other news channel.  This is big, big news, how can they expect to remain credible when they haven’t covered it in any way?

As I said earlier, I’m sure we’ll hear more from this story and I’ll be here to keep you updated with my opinion along the way.  Voice your concerns directly to ACORN by looking up your states office and phone number here.  If the Mainstream Media isn’t putting the pressure on them, someone’s got too.

Participate in our ACORN themed blog contest by clicking here.

Watch the full video of the interviews with ACORN by clicking here.

**Piece of irony: A friend of mine in Mississippi text me today and said: “Funny thing is, our ACORN office is on Hooker Street.”  Just a bit of humor to keep you from going insane now that you know your tax payer dollars could be going to help prostitutes evade their taxes.

Ellen Degeneres to Replace Paula Abdul as the New Fourth Judge on American Idol: Could This Be the Big Turn Around They Need?

The new face of American Idol.

The new face of American Idol.

American Idol and Ellen Degeneres shocked pretty much everyone when they announced that she’d be filling in for Paula Abdul on the next season of American Idol.  I know I’m shocked, but very excited.

Many have been saying that giving Ellen the job “degrades the character of the show as she has no musical experience”.  Guys… It’s a karaoke contest, not an official showcase of fine talent.  I personally think that was a brilliant move by American Idol because Ellen will provide much needed humor to the show.  There’s no denying that American Idol, as much as I love it, is faltering in the ratings.  They needed something big to turn things around and if Ellen goes on the show and doesn’t try to act like she knows what she’s talking this could be just what they needed.  I think she’s going to provide for more laughs than any other previous Idol seasons have been able to muster.

With Paula gone, there’s no loving character to nurture contestants.  Ellen can fill that void while being competent at the same time, something Paula always struggled with.  And so what if she has no experience in the music business?  Paula, even with her years in the industry, never made any sense at all.

What do you think about Ellen filling in for Paula permanently on American Idol?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Glenn Beck’s EARTHSHATTERINGLY HUGE Story: Don’t Forget to Tune-in Tomorrow at 5 PM/4 PM CST!

Oh man, Glenn Beck is on a roll lately.  He successfully lead the charge to get rid of nutjob Van Jones, and now he’s got an even bigger story that he plans to release tomorrow during his Fox News show.  The story is so big, in fact, that Glenn says we won’t be talking about healthcare anymore after tomorrow and people will go to jail.  He was very ambiguous with everything he said today, but he did show a short clip that said “SEX” and then it had some clips of a girl with a blurred out face saying something about “male clients”.  Could this be reminscent of the late 90s with Clinton and Lewinsky?

I’ve searched all over the internet this afternoon trying to find some more hints as to what his big story will be about so readers of The Conservative Journal could be ahead of the game, but Glenn and his crew have done a great job keeping everything hidden until the big air-date.

Tomorrow we’ll all see what he has dug up for us this time and if it truly is enough to send people to jail and get our minds off of healthcare.

Tune in tomorrow at 5 PM/ 4 PM CST on Fox News Channel to catch the earthshattering story.

What do you think Glenn’s big special is about?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Pros and Cons of Obama’s Healthcare Address to Congress: Yeah I’m Still Not For It.

Now that the healthcare bill has been passed, what does that mean for you?  Click HERE to read an updated post containing an overview of what did and did not make the bill.

Tonight was Barack’s big night to sell healthcare; some even called it his night to sell his next term as president.  With a speech that important, of course you’d expect it to be earthshattering.  Below is my take on the big healthcare pitch to America:

Pros:

  • Whether he was being truthful or not, he put in a good word about our nation’s economy.  Those positive little tidbits are a great change from last Spring when he couldn’t tell us enough that our economy was failing.
  • He did a good job at the beginning by saying single payer was too far left, everyone paying for their own is too far right and we should meet in the middle and act bipartisanly.  If they’ll actually carry out that statement it would be wonderful.
  • He used the common sense solutions to his advantage.  Clearly, no one is going to argue AGAINST laws restricting health insurance companies from denying or restricting coverage once the patient gets sick.
  • He used it as a time to dispell the rumors swirling around healthcare, like coverage for illegals.  Though the claim that illegals aren’t covered drew boos and a “THAT’S A LIE” from South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson, I’ll take his word on that one until it’s 100% fact that they are actually covered.
  • He surprised me and expressed support for Tort Reform, which is absolutely necessary with or without this bill.  We HAVE to have Tort Reform.
  • Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi didn’t disappoint (as always) in the background entertainment department.  Joe kept the same perplexed, thinking face the entire 45 minutes and Nancy’s perpetual grimace was in full force tonight.

Cons

  • Barack should be over making jabs at President Bush by this point.  The line about healthcare spending being “less than we have spent on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and less than the tax cuts for the wealthiest few Americans” under the previous administration did nothing but entertain a few liberals and further alienate conservatives.
  • The Ted Kennedy nostalgia was not needed.  That just fires up the opposition because Democrats are clearly using his death to further the cause.
  • There were a few outright lies; the bit about the majority of Americans supporting the healthcare reform bill comes to mind.  A simple trip to RealClear Politics dispells that.
  • The whole chapter about the deficit not increasing a penny should probably be let go until he can show us what and where he’s going to squeeze money from.  It’s hard to believe that we’ve got $900 billion we can just slide around to suit this new healthcare system.
  • The idle threats towards those that misinterperate the bill at the end of the speech could definitely have been cut.  It reminded me of when your in high school and that guy gets to be hall monitor and tries to write you citations for things off campus.
  • Some of the sketchier provisions are still in the bill: Public option and mandatory health insurance, to name a few.

Overall, I give the speech 7 out of 10 Elephants; 6 for substance and 8 for delivery.  He got the main points across and that was good for him, but as he said during the speech, there are still many details to iron out.  And until those details (i.e. where he’s pulling $900 billion from) are cleared up, I don’t expect to see any big change in the American people’s perspective on the reform bill.

Now that the healthcare bill has been passed, what does that mean for you?  Click HERE to read an updated post containing an overview of what did and did not make the bill.

Thoughts From Around the Blogosphere: Reaction to Van Jones’s Resignation and Controversy

I haven’t done one of these in a while, but there so much fun so I’m about to start again.  For those that don’t know how this works, I google blogsearch “Van Jones” and take a random sampling of the results and clip out important bits, as well as throw in some of my favorite bloggers’ thoughts.  Here’s the blogosphere’s reaction to the resignation of former green jobs advisor, Van Jones:

DPGI- the aftermath

Just put Bush’s name in any of these stories – war, spending, personal associations, agenda, czars, “dictatorship” – and then, recall the panty-twisting furor of the Left from the past eight years. Kind of telling to see the sand in their crotch was Bush, not what Bush did because Obama is following Bush’s path in many ways.

Quipster

The special adviser for green jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality apparently believes that his past actions are being used as “lies and distortions,” and are not worthy of scrutiny for the special government position he enjoyed.

Citizens Against Pro-Obama Media Bias

They ranted on and on about the “birthers” and compared them to the “truthers” and lo and behold one of barry’s special advisors is a truther…to begin with.

The Transporter

Van Jones resigns as President Obamas green jobs czar. All I can think of to say is not soon enough, not soon enough. The president should check into the backgrounds of some people before he hires them to save the embarrassment.

Newsreal (I strongly recommend reading this article, it’s one of my favorites regarding Jones)

The point is not that President Obama will not tolerate people with Van Jones’ views to serve in his administration: he obviously will, because he did and he defended Jones to the bitter end. The point is Jones is becoming part of Obama’s increasingly familiar pattern: associate with radical leftists, give them as much power and prominence as possible in their own right, and disavow them only if they begin to hurt your ability to radicalize the system from within.

The Political Inquirer

One down a whole administration yet to go.

Citizen Obie

Van Jones made a mistake. Van Jones did and said some things I think he probably regrets. In fact, I know he does, because he said so. But where I see a mistake, Glenn Beck and the rightist bloggers who carried out this campaign saw an opportunity to tar and feather (and yes, that image is deliberate) the very symbol of the green jobs movement, and to characterize that movement, and by extension the presidency, as a communist cabal intent on imposing a reverse-racist tyranny on good Christian straight White Americans.

Betsy’s Page

How viciously sneaky of the right wing. They dared to use the man’s own words against him.

All American Blogger

I’m not saying I had anything to do with this, but I did write one heck of a blogosphere roundup on the matter.

California Conservative

Conservatives often joke that the Left’s definition of a dirty campaign is using their words against them. That seems to fit with Van Jones’ resignation letter.

The Lonely Conservative

Despite the fact that the MSM completely ignored the news of Van Jones’s past, the radical commie Green Jobs Czar has quit. And of course he’s blaming it on the folks who had the nerve to dig up his past. Not that it was hard.

Glenn Beck

The American people stood up and demanded answers. Instead of providing them, the Administration had Jones resign under cover of darkness. I continue to be amazed by the power of everyday Americans to initiate change in our government through honest questioning, and judging by the other radicals in the administration, I expect that questioning to continue for the foreseeable future.

College Football: It’s time.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

Because I know I am.  College Football is really the only sporting event I follow closely (Not the NFL, though, because they’re all overpaid and full of themselves.  These are college kids playing to have fun. For the most part).  I mean I watch the other stuff, but something about college football just makes me go crazy.  So for my first attempt at blogging about sports I’m going to post my thoughts about games from each week, as well as post a separate prediction post of each game scheduled that week.  We’ll see how it goes, but I’m pumped about it.  If anyone has any suggestions or requests, as always feel free to e-mail me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com.

For reasons stated below, I plan to follow these teams closely this year:

  • LSU (Can’t stand the school or the team, but they make for entertaining games)
  • Mississippie University (AKA Ole Miss.  Again, can’t stand the school or team, but I’ll be interested to see how they do after a season last year that exceeded all expectations.
  • Georgia (‘Dis my team)
  • Penn State (I just like this school for some reason)
  • University of Southern Mississippi (I have family that lives in the area and loves their team.  Don’t know toomuch about them other than their coach is from Oklahoma State.

So there’s the list for now, I’m sure it will change as the season actually get’s going.  Look for my first post about this weekend’s games either Sunday or Monday.  Also, I’m still trying to think of a catchy title for this miniseries.  I love those titles!

Who are you following closely this year?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Video of the Day: GASP! Maybe Al Franken Isn’t That Much of a Moron?

Alright, before everyone jumps on me and sends me scathing e-mails, hear me out and watch the video.  I don’t agree with Al Franken at all, and I still stand firm against this healthcare bill.  However, he does work well under pressure.  In the following video, Al is greeted by a group of protesters and he handles it wonderfully by shooting out facts, remaining calm, and just being honest.  In fact, he does the unthinkable by admitting our current path is unsustainable.  If all liberals/democrats handled protesters like this, maybe they’d get somewhere as far as increasing love for the reform bill.  Here’s the video:

What do you think of Al’s response?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Music Review: Carrie Underwood’s Latest Single “Cowboy Casanova”

I love the interweb.  Without it, Carrie Underwood’s latest single, “Cowboy Casanova”, from her upcoming album Play On (in stores November 3!) wouldn’t be out until the 8th.  I discovered it late last night and listened to it a few times and then woke up and listened to it some more.  She’s truly got an amazing voice.  Anyway, on to the song….

To the top of the charts, and beyond!

When I first listened to “Cowboy Casanova”, I must admit I wasn’t sold.  However, upon third listen, I was hooked.  Fans of Carrie will no doubt find it impossible to tear themselves away from the beat and incredible vocals, and new fans will be drawn in by the brilliant hook.  I see “Cowboy Casanova” rivaling, if not passing, “Before He Cheats” in the success department, but not necessarily because I think it’s a better song.  We all know there will always only be one “Before He Cheats” and it is epic.  However, “Cowboy Casanova” is nearly as strong a song PLUS it’s a first single, and those tend to perform exceptionally well on the charts.  The excitement from the release of Play On in November and all of the promotion will probably give Carrie her best shot at #1 on the Hot 100 with this song, unless of course she has some KILLER songs on the album, which I don’t doubt.

Rocking Carrie > Everything

As for the actual song, “Cowboy Casanova” breaks Carrie’s pattern of more sentimental lead-off singles in a big way.  It starts off with a bumpin’ beat and some intense strings and then Carrie tears into the vocals.  People that are more technically educated in singing can correct me if I’m wrong, but these vocals might be some of Carrie’s most soaring yet.   The song also incorporates the more rock vibe Carrie has been known to infuse in concert performances and, of course, my favorite performance she’s ever done: “Last Name” from the Grammys last year.

If “Cowboy Casanova” is any indication of the style of songs we’ll find on Play On, more country/pop/rock, I expect it to be closer in succes to Some Hearts than Carnival Ride. Carrie’s got a monster hit on her hands and if her promotion team can get it together (They’ve never impressed me), she could ride this one all the way to the top of The Hot 100.

The Verdict

Carrie is awesome and “Cowboy Casanova” is rocking.  Of course it makes the TCJ Playlist!

The Rating

9 out of 10 Elephants

Carrie Underwood’s Latest Single “Cowboy Casanova”: Hear It Now!

After much anticipation for the release of the lead-off single to her new album, Carrie sneaks up and surprises everyone by releasing it late last night.  So without further ado, the lead single off Play On, in stores November 3!

It took a couple of listens, but this song is growing on me.  Carrie has some crazy pipes and I could see this having mass radio success.  Look for a full review of the song later today.
