Fall TV Lineup: House, Fringe, The Office, Parks and Recreation.. I Can’t Wait!

There are two subjects I love to talk about: politics and entertainment (television, music, etc.).  So when the fall tv season rolls around, my face lights up with joy.  If you followed this blog at all up until the end of the tv season last May then you know what I’m talking about.

The Plan

This tv season, I plan to recap and review House, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Fringe, Glee, SNL Weekend Update Thursday, SNL, and Past Life and American Idol when they air.  Here’s a detail of the dates so you can plan accordingly:

Monday:

  • House (FOX)- 7 PM CST- House won’t premiere until next week, unfortunately.  But when it does it promises to be a big opener with 2 hours of sarcasm and medical drama.  I’ll definitely be bringing you my recap of this!

Tuesday:

  • Past Life (FOX)- Midseason debut at 8 PM CST- “Past Life” will debut midseason as a new show on the FOX network.  “Past Life” sounds exciting, so I can’t wait to see how it is!  Here’s a summary courtesy of GiveMeMyRemote.com:

From writer David Hudgins (“Friday Night Lights”), and inspired by the book “The Reincarnationist” by M.J. Rose, comes PAST LIFE, a new drama series about an unlikely pair of past-life detectives who investigate whether what is happening to you today is the result of who you were before.

Wednesday:

  • Glee (FOX)- 8 PM CST Ends Midseason- Yeah I realize I missed recapping the premiere of “Glee” last week, but I watched it and it was hilarious.  So I’ll be adding it to the lineup this year.
  • Human Target (FOX)- 8 PM CST Starts Midseason- “Human Target” will pick up midseason when we let go of “Glee”, and I’m not really sure what it’s about.  All I know is that it’s an adaptation by some DC Comics thing.  If it’s good, I’ll cover it.

Thursday:

This is the big day.  I’m considering making this “No Politics Thursday”.  What do you think?

  • SNL Weekend Upate Thursday (NBC)- 7 PM CST- I love everything related to SNL, especially Weekend Update.  This recap will contain mostly video links to funny stuff.
  • Parks and Recreation (NBC)- 7:3o PM CST- Once again, I love everything related to SNL and Amy Poehler is the product of SNL.  This show was hilarious back in the spring so I can’t wait.
  • The Office (NBC)- 8:00 PM CST- Ahh, The Office, it’s a classic.  It could be the funniest in the comedic trifecta that is NBC Thursday.
  • Fringe (FOX)- 8 PM CST*- Fringe was my favorite new show of last year.  It has action, science fiction aspects, mystery, humor, everything you could ever want in a show!  I can’t wait for this one.

*Due to scheduling overlaps, the Fringe recap will start at 8:30 PM nightly, after The Office airs.

Saturday:

  • SNL- 11:30 PM CST- I can’t wait for this!  It doesn’t premiere until 26th, though, so we’ll just have to sit tight.

That’s about all I can handle covering at this point.  Of course American Idol will be added in January when it starts, and if I begin recapping one of the new shows, but my interest falls off, I’ll drop the review.  There’s no use in forcing out a review of a show I don’t like when I could be writing about something more interesting.

For those that don’t know how I recap, here’s the scoop:

My recaps are part summary, part review.  I do the summary part while the show is playing, updating the post during each commercial break.  So my recaps are usually pretty in-depth.  At the end of the recap, I write a paragraph of my opinion on the episode, whether I liked it or not, a rating, and any other information that’s needed.

Song of the Day: “Bury Me Alive” by We Are The Fallen (Live Version)

I know I’ve mentioned this song before, but really is a great song that everyone should give a listen.  It highlights the wonderful vocals of Carly Smithson (From American Idol) and the stunning music ability of ex-Evanescence members Ben Moody, John LeCompt, and Rocky Gray, plus Marty O’Brien, who toured with Kelly Clarkson, among others.  Listen to the live version below:

Video of the Day: Paramore Singing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

Here’s a great video of Haley Williams of Paramore singing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.  I love the song in its original form, but Haley Williams is a great vocalist so I like this as well.  It’s a different, softer take on the original.  Watch below:

What do you think of this version of the song compared with the original?

Happy Labor Day Everyone!

Happy Labor Day Everybody!

Hey everyone, I hope you all had a great labor day weekend.  I didn’t have to work today, but I did spend the majority of my day laboring. I had to catch up on some work stuff so I didn’t get much relaxation time today.  I did, however, get to have a great supper with all of my family and it was a lot of fun.  That’s about all for today, but I’ll be back on my regular blogging shedule tomorrow.

Again, I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Gee, those European talent shows sure are churning out some real winners lately!  Watch as the lovely Lucie Jones sings a restrained version of “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston.  She’s great, and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more from her.

Van Jones Resigns: A Display of the Power of Fox News

Wow, I think I truly am shocked about this.

I haven’t been following the Van Jones saga much lately because I’d seen what I needed to see:  the guy is crazy and he is (was) an advisor to the president.  If I’m being perfectly honest, I assumed that he was here to stay so I just tried to block out all of the controversies surrounding him during my daily dose of Glenn Beck so I wasn’t freaked out even further.

So when I got home from church today, I was surprised to find on the AOL home page that Van Jones had resigned as green jobs advisor amid all the controversy.  But again, rather than owning up to his past statements and claims, Jones simply said he needed to leave due to the “vicious smear campaign” against him.  Van.. Buddy.. It’s not a smear campaign when it’s true.  Admit responsibility for your actions and leave with a little bit of dignity.  Without a doubt Jones knew that he was fast becoming baggage for the administration and that he probably wouldn’t be able to make many green jobs when the vast majority of America is against him.  In fact, AOL’s poll (I know it’s not scientific, but they’re usually pretty close) has 91%  giving Jones resignation a “Thumbs Up” and only 9% a “Thumbs Down”.

Glenn Beck, pat yourself on the back for this one

The whole debacle would have never gotten anywhere without all the coverage Glenn Beck has devoted to Van Jones over the past few days.  He’s constantly been pounding viewers with video clips and quotes from Van Jones that serve as an illustration of his lunacity.  The message obviously resonated with viewers; “Van Jones” was a trending topic on Twitter at the start of the weekend and the blogosphere has been ripe with “Get Rid of Jones!” posts.  Once the rest of the right-media (Basically Fox News) caught on to the situation, Sean Hannity picked it up and then it was all over.  When you’ve got the second biggest radio personality and quite possibly the most controversial cable news host broadcasting concrete evidence of insanity, somethings got to change.  And that my friends, is change we can believe in.

TCJ Library Addition: “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” by Mitch Albom

I wanted to thank the reader that sent in a suggestion for me to read “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” and add it to the TCJ Library; it’s running low on books, I know.  I’m going to go buy it tomorrow or Monday and start reading and write a review when I finish.  From what I’ve read on the internet, it’s supposed to be really good.  Can’t wait to share with everyone my opinion of it!

Also, if you have a book or magazine suggestion you’d like to see added to the Library, please e-mail me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com or write a comment on the Library page.  As always, I’d love your suggestions!

College Football: It’s time.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!

Because I know I am.  College Football is really the only sporting event I follow closely (Not the NFL, though, because they’re all overpaid and full of themselves.  These are college kids playing to have fun. For the most part).  I mean I watch the other stuff, but something about college football just makes me go crazy.  So for my first attempt at blogging about sports I’m going to post my thoughts about games from each week, as well as post a separate prediction post of each game scheduled that week.  We’ll see how it goes, but I’m pumped about it.  If anyone has any suggestions or requests, as always feel free to e-mail me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com.

For reasons stated below, I plan to follow these teams closely this year:

  • LSU (Can’t stand the school or the team, but they make for entertaining games)
  • Mississippie University (AKA Ole Miss.  Again, can’t stand the school or team, but I’ll be interested to see how they do after a season last year that exceeded all expectations.
  • Georgia (‘Dis my team)
  • Penn State (I just like this school for some reason)
  • University of Southern Mississippi (I have family that lives in the area and loves their team.  Don’t know toomuch about them other than their coach is from Oklahoma State.

So there’s the list for now, I’m sure it will change as the season actually get’s going.  Look for my first post about this weekend’s games either Sunday or Monday.  Also, I’m still trying to think of a catchy title for this miniseries.  I love those titles!

Who are you following closely this year?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Video of the Day: GASP! Maybe Al Franken Isn’t That Much of a Moron?

Alright, before everyone jumps on me and sends me scathing e-mails, hear me out and watch the video.  I don’t agree with Al Franken at all, and I still stand firm against this healthcare bill.  However, he does work well under pressure.  In the following video, Al is greeted by a group of protesters and he handles it wonderfully by shooting out facts, remaining calm, and just being honest.  In fact, he does the unthinkable by admitting our current path is unsustainable.  If all liberals/democrats handled protesters like this, maybe they’d get somewhere as far as increasing love for the reform bill.  Here’s the video:

What do you think of Al’s response?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Music Review: Carrie Underwood’s Latest Single “Cowboy Casanova”

I love the interweb.  Without it, Carrie Underwood’s latest single, “Cowboy Casanova”, from her upcoming album Play On (in stores November 3!) wouldn’t be out until the 8th.  I discovered it late last night and listened to it a few times and then woke up and listened to it some more.  She’s truly got an amazing voice.  Anyway, on to the song….

To the top of the charts, and beyond!

When I first listened to “Cowboy Casanova”, I must admit I wasn’t sold.  However, upon third listen, I was hooked.  Fans of Carrie will no doubt find it impossible to tear themselves away from the beat and incredible vocals, and new fans will be drawn in by the brilliant hook.  I see “Cowboy Casanova” rivaling, if not passing, “Before He Cheats” in the success department, but not necessarily because I think it’s a better song.  We all know there will always only be one “Before He Cheats” and it is epic.  However, “Cowboy Casanova” is nearly as strong a song PLUS it’s a first single, and those tend to perform exceptionally well on the charts.  The excitement from the release of Play On in November and all of the promotion will probably give Carrie her best shot at #1 on the Hot 100 with this song, unless of course she has some KILLER songs on the album, which I don’t doubt.

Rocking Carrie > Everything

As for the actual song, “Cowboy Casanova” breaks Carrie’s pattern of more sentimental lead-off singles in a big way.  It starts off with a bumpin’ beat and some intense strings and then Carrie tears into the vocals.  People that are more technically educated in singing can correct me if I’m wrong, but these vocals might be some of Carrie’s most soaring yet.   The song also incorporates the more rock vibe Carrie has been known to infuse in concert performances and, of course, my favorite performance she’s ever done: “Last Name” from the Grammys last year.

If “Cowboy Casanova” is any indication of the style of songs we’ll find on Play On, more country/pop/rock, I expect it to be closer in succes to Some Hearts than Carnival Ride. Carrie’s got a monster hit on her hands and if her promotion team can get it together (They’ve never impressed me), she could ride this one all the way to the top of The Hot 100.

The Verdict

Carrie is awesome and “Cowboy Casanova” is rocking.  Of course it makes the TCJ Playlist!

The Rating

9 out of 10 Elephants

Carrie Underwood’s Latest Single “Cowboy Casanova”: Hear It Now!

After much anticipation for the release of the lead-off single to her new album, Carrie sneaks up and surprises everyone by releasing it late last night.  So without further ado, the lead single off Play On, in stores November 3!

It took a couple of listens, but this song is growing on me.  Carrie has some crazy pipes and I could see this having mass radio success.  Look for a full review of the song later today.
