Thrilling Thursdays Giveaway: You Could Win Glenn Beck’s New Book, “Arguing With Idiots!”

First off, thanks to all those who participated in last weeks “Thrilling Thursdays” Giveaway, the turn out was great and as long as participation stays high I’ll be able to do this weekly.  This week will require a little more brain power, but not by much.  Here are the details:

  • This contest is only open to Conservative Journal Deluxe Members.  As always, anyone is welcome to comment and send in questions/responses on articles, but only Deluxe Members who comment will be put into the drawing.  If you aren’t currently a member and would like to join, clickhere to read the details and become a member now!  It’s free and extremely easy to do.
  • To enter your name for a chance to win, all you have to do is e-mail me (theconservativejournal@gmail.com) what you think the top search term is for people visiting The Conservative Journal.  (I realizes that’s worded a little weirdly, but simply put you are trying to guess what word or phrase typed into Google sends the most visitors to The Conservative Journal).  If you don’t like to send e-mails, you are welcome to live your guess in a comment on this post, but just know that others can see your answers and that will decrease your chances of winning.
  • For this contest, you may submit answer PER DAY.  However, sending in the same answer daily will not increase your score because your name only goes in to the drawing one time, regardless.
  • Be sure and send your answer from the e-mail address you signed up for TCJ Deluxe with because that’s the only way I can contact you if you are the winner.
  • I realize there will probably be multiple right answers, and there will be 5 winners because of that.  If more than 5 guess correctly, however, each name will put into a drawing and the 5 names randomly selected will each win the prize.
  • As far as technicalities, each Deluxe Member is assigned a number in the database of members for all giveaways.  I will use random.org to generate a random number until the number of 5 users who guessed correctly are chosen.  Those users will be crowned the winners of this giveaway and will be notified through e-mail before I announce it on the site.  If the winners don’t respond to the “congratulations” e-mail and provide shipping addresses in 48 hours, I will generate another number and will notify the new winners.  If the new winners don’t claim his/her prize in 48 hours, I will keep the prize and use it in the next giveaway.

The Prize

Finally, the winners of this contest will each receive Glenn Beck’s latest book, “Arguing With Idiots.”  Thanks to a great friend of mine who owns a local bookstore, I’ve managed to purchase five of books for much cheaper than the retail value.

Highlights

Contest: Guess the most popular incoming search term for those visiting The Conservative Journal.
Time Frame: 10/1- 10/8
Open to: Conservative Journal Deluxe Members only
Prize: “Arguing With Idiots” by Glenn Beck

Gook luck and thank you to all who participate!

Fireside Chat: An Interview with Someone Inside The 9/12 Project Rally in DC

Mike is an average American who happens to care about his country.  A retired contractor in Alabama, he made the long drive to our nation’s capital last Friday to participate in The 9/12 Project Rally.  Below is an e-mail conversation I recently had with him regarding his time in D.C.

Q: Hi Mike, thanks for talking to us today.  Let’s start by telling everyone a little background about yourself.

A: First of all, thank you so much Rick for having me.  People got to know what’s going on and things like this really help to get the word out.  Anyway, as you said my name is Mike, and I love in northern Alabama.  I was a contractor in the area for about 40 years before retiring a few years ago.  I have a wife, two sons, and four wonderful grandchildren.

Q: So, growing up and into your adult life, were ever really interested in politics?

A: I’m glad you ask that Rick because it’s really a funny story.  I wasn’t interested in politics at all at any point in my life.  I wasn’t even registered to vote until this past election.  I had always just said that the people running for office knew more about stuff like that than I did, so my input wasn’t needed.

Q: Before you became interested in politics and started getting involved, did you ever get upset or frustrated with the direction of the government?

A: Well there were of course times when I was not pleased.  Like when Clinton was caught with that girl for example.  I felt like I needed to take him to church that’s for sure.  But my wife who’s always been much more interested told me that I couldn’t complain until I registered, so I just shut up real quick.

Q: I don’t think you were the only one that felt that way during the Clinton years, Mike.  So when did you first get interested in politics and what got you first interested?

A: Hmmm.  I believe it was the beginning of 2008.  I know some of Mr. Obama’s more controversial stuff was beginning to come out.  I was sitting in my chair watching Fox News, and something about his ties with the Ayers guy came on and that was enough.  I went and registered the next day and told my wife I now had full rights to complain about politics.

Q: So that one controversial relationship got you started on politics?

A: I wouldn’t say it was just that one, I’d been hearing a lot of stuff.  You know, Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, who I think is just despicabble.  Things just weren’t looking good.

Q: Long story short, Barack Obama was too controversial for you so you had to stand up?  I’m assuming you voted for McCain?

A: That’s right, was and still is too controversial.  Of course I did.  John McCain is an American patriot.

Q: I agree.  Now to the present:  When did you decide you were going to the DC Rally?

A: The first day I saw it on Glenn Beck’s show.  My wife and I were watching the tv and he announced The 9/12 Project and I said “Honey, make sure that weekends clear.  We’re going to DC.”  She was real excited, I’d say.

Q: Tell me a little bit about your trip there.

A: Well we (me, my wife, my wife’s friend and her husband) left on Thursday at around 8 AM because we wanted to be in D.C. for 9/11 memorial services.  I’ve wanted to be there for them since the 1st anniversary, but it hadn’t worked out until this year.  It took us about 12 hours to get their from our house.  We stopped for lunch in northern Tennessee and then drove straight into D.C.  It was about 10 or so when we got into the room.

Q: How was your time in D.C.?

A: Friday morning was very touching.  We went to the big memorial service at around 8 AM and afterwards we spent the day sightseeing.  It was my first time in D.C. so of course I had to see all the sights, you know the monuments, the museums, etc.

Q: That brings us to the rally.  Give us your thoughts on that.

A: The rally was great.  It’s so refreshing to be surrounded by like-minded Americans and know that we really aren’t alone.  And I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in one place.  If I had to guess I’d have said 5 million [people], but I heard some reporter say it was closer to 2 million.  We all really had a great time chanting; and we had our “YOU CAN KEEP THE CHANGE” sign in full force.  I just hope that all of us might have gotten through to even one congressman what we were trying to say:  government is not the solution.  That was pretty much our main purpose.

Q: Last question.  If and when there is another rally, do you think you’ll attend?

A: Absolutely.  If there’s a big one in D.C., we’ll definitely try and go.  We’re actually trying to get one planned for our town.  It won’t be on as grand a scale as D.C., of course, but it’ll still be a great experience.

Q: Thanks so much Mike.  You were great and I appreciate your giving us this time.  I hope everything keeps going great for you and your family.

A: No, thank you Rick.  I’m glad I could continue to do my part.  Take care, and God bless.

Thoughts From Around the Blogosphere: Reactions to the ACORN Prostitution Scandal

To read my reaction(s), click here, here, or here. I was on a roll.

Here’s what the rest of the blogosphere had to say…

Top Truth: Wake Up America

Why is it that everyone around our president is filthy and corrupt?

Gateway Pundit

Now today, we find out that the Democrats favorite community organizers are pushing teen prostitution.
It figures. Big Government has the undercover investigation that the state-run media is ignoring.

The Conservative Republican Standard

This is so flipping ridiculous. Everyone at ACORN should be ashamed of what is going on at their office in Baltimore.

Jonathan Turley

Obviously, ACORN is a large organization and cannot be tarnished with the actions of a couple of employees, even if this tape is proven to be legitimate.

Crush Liberalism

The video with the “false portrayal” has resulted in a couple of ACORN workers getting fired.  I suppose ACORN figured out that you can actually learn a lot about a situation when you actually see it for yourself!

Abnersnoot’s Blog

America, this is your tax dollars at work. We continue to create 5 billion dollars in dept every 5 weeks. that is $1,000,000,000.00 every seven days. How much do you think goes to schools, roads, levee’s, helping the average American out…not nearly as much as goes to organizations like ACORN.

On Man’s Thoughts (On Census Bureau cutting ties with ACORN)

People, we won another battle it keep our country free. Keep up the pressure. We can stop Obama and his socialist agenda.

The Universe Exists for My Amusement (On Census Bureau cutting ties with ACORN)

The ACORN falls from the tree and is crushed under the heel of a boot.

PUMABydesign001’s Blog

ACORN is crooked and should be investigated, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and all government funding to this organization should cease immediately.  It is that simple.  BRING ACORN DOWN!!!!

Legacy of my Fathers

ACORN’s towers are falling. I’m tellin’ you, ACORN is done. They can’t recover from this.

I had to scrounge about the blogosphere to dig these up.  With the mainstream media blocking this out completely, there haven’t been too many reactions to this story.

What do you think of these reactions?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

The 9/12 Project: Don’t Forget to Tune-in Today, and If You or Someone You Know is Going, Let Me Know!

The 9/12 Project Logo

The 9/12 Project Logo

Last March, Glenn Beck told viewers of the 9/12 project, the 9 principals and 12 values that we have forgotten.  Today, all the efforts of the 912 project will cap off with rallies across the country, as well as a 2-hour Fox News Special hosted by Glenn Beck at the Washington rally.

If you or somone you know will be attending the rallies, let me know!  If you (or the person you know at the rally) would be interested in doing an e-mail interview about the rally, let me know.  I couldn’t make it the rally, but I’d love to write a post about the experience from the eyes of someone that was their.  Thanks for any that will participate!

If you or someone you know would be interested in doing an e-mail interview about the 9/12 Rally, e-mail me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com!

Latest ACORN News Round-up: More Help For Prostitutes and a Bit of Good News

Friday’s are always very busy for me, so I didn’t have time for the post-a-thon that I went through yesterday regarding the ACORN prostitution scandal.  Many would say I’m running this into the ground, to which I’d say that I’m just picking up the slack for ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, etc.

In today’s “Spotlight on ACORN” segment, we see that the prostitution incident that happened in Baltimore was not an isolated incident, as video tape came in today of a very similar situation at the ACORN D.C. office.  Now, I’m going to have an EXTREMELY hard time being convinced that these were the only two instances of this taking place.  I’m sure less extreme cases of this occur all to often in ACORN offices across the country.

My first question is, how do these people get hired?  The answer:  The people running ACORN are even more corrupt, they’re just not blaringly obvious and they are smarter about.  The two Baltimore employees were fired yesterday because they didn’t meet ACORNS “quality standards of professionalism”, not because they advised a girl on how to successfully traffic 13 El Salvadorian teens into America.  They also issued a statement similar to Van Jones’s that said this was a smear campaign by the right and the stunt had been pulled in several offices unsuccessfully.  Well first off, using actually video footage of an event that paints a negative picture of something is not a smear campign; it is fact.  Secondly, if other offices didn’t give them aid, then those employees weren’t as corrupt and immoral as the ladies at the Baltimore office.  The fact that it was able to happen at all scares me enough.

The Good News is…..

The Census Buruea cut ties with ACORN, who was previously scheduled to help with the 2010 census.  A special thanks to Jerry Hosey (jhosey1206.wordpress.com) for alerting of this issue.  At least there have been a few reprocussions for ACORN as a group.  Maybe they’ll learn from this and not hire such bimbos to lead their offices.

What do you think about the latest ACORN developments?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

My Follow Up to Yesterday: Which of the Mainstream Media Outlets Reported on the ACORN Prostitution Story Today?

Yesterday afternoon I spent several hours being totally frustrated and angry.  It all started with the ACORN story, but quickly my aggravation began to stem from something else: the mainstream media’s complete refusal to cover or even mention the story.  That quickly began the bigger deal to me.

To follow up my posts from yesterday about the blatant media bias, I did my rounds on the internet to check and see if CNN, MSNBC, and others had posted anything at all on their websites.  I figure a day and a half is more than enough to have your say, right?   Here’s what I found:

  • CNN- CNN posted a story on their website at around 9 AM CST.  The articles’s headline stated that ACORN employees had “allegedly” been caught advising a prostitute, but the actual body of the article was good, fair, and didn’t try to sugar coat anything.  CNN did, however, give Joe Wilson’s “You Lie” outburst precedence over the ACORN scandal by putting it as the featured story.  CNN earns a 6.5 out of 10 Elephants for their coverage.
  • MSNBC- This is a most deplorable network.  As of now (1 PM CST), they have yet to mention a word of this story on their website.  Their lead story is the anniversary of 9/11, wich is definitely worthy news.  However, ignoring the ACORN issue is not acceptable.  As expected, MSNBC earns 0 out of 10 Elephants for their non-coverage.
  • ABC- I was unable to find any word of the story on any of their news show websites, such as Nightline and Primetime, but their websites are rather hard to navigate so I could have missed it.  Until further inspection, they remained unrated.
  • NBC- Their Dateline website was devoid of any coverage of the story.  Their featured stories were the same as those on MSNBC.com.  NBC is awarded 0 out of 10 Elephants for their non-coverage.
  • AOL News- I realize this isn’t an official news source, but it is the number 1 internet home page in the world.  So it does have some effect.  I thought surely they’d put the story as the feature, but they opted out and instead talked about the “What Gender is She??” controversy surrounding that runner.  The ACORN story was listed as the second story in “Also in the Headlines” on the main news slide, and while it’s good it was on the main page, the article itself is very poor in quality.  A two line paragraph gives the bare bones of what happened, and it is then followed by ACORN’s rebuttle and comments on the two journalists who filmed them.  Better still is the fact that the ACORN story was featured along with Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” outburst.  It was 5 short paragraphs of ACORN and then as soon as it finished it said in bold “Quote of the Week”, then went on to talk about Joe Wilson.  How these two are in anyway related is beyond me.  AOL gets a 4.5 out of 10 for mentioning it, but not really reporting it as its own story.

DISCLAIMER: I wrote this own my lunch break today, but for some reason it didn’t post so I just resubmitted it.  If any of the information has changed, please let me know so I’m not spreading lies.  Also, it’s my understanding that AOL took the story completely off their main page, or any of the “Featured” slides.  Unacceptable.

What do you think of this blatant disregard to real journalism?  Have these networks forgotten their jobs? Remember, it’s our responsibility to stand up and do what’s right for this country.  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Yeah I dont have a trophy this nice.

Yeah I don't have a trophy this nice.

Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now

Above are the words that make up ACORN.  However, with today’s recent revelations, they are hardly fitting to their actual message.  For my first ever contest on this blog, I’d like to ask everyone to send in their suggestions and ideas for a new acronym for ACORN.  Whether it be a jab the help they gave the prostitute, or something that better describes their mission, all ideas are very welcomed.  At this time, there’s no prize for winning, but the best acronyms will be featured on the site.  And if you have a blog and you are featured on the site, I’ll be glad to throw the link up there.

Send any ideas to theconservativejournal@gmail.com, or leave them below in a comment!

The Big Glenn Beck Story: ACORN Giving A Prostitute Tax Evading Advice, Caught on Tape!

I wonder if these people are prostitutes on the side?

I wonder if these people are prostitutes on the side?

I raced home early today to watch today’s episode of Glenn Beck because I simply couldn’t wait to watch it tonight.  I Googled the scandal today during lunch and was pretty shocked at what I saw.  I’ve known ACORN was corrupt since we started hearing about their “work” a few years ago, but I never knew they were this corrupt.  I don’t know if this is an isolated incident (I mean I imagine they don’t get too many clients like this), but if the prostitute’s request went through this time without a hitch, I can’t imagine what other evasion they’ve guided along.

For those that don’t know what’s going on (Unless you watch Fox News or have Googled the scandal directly, you probably don’t) here’s a little recap:  Two aspiring journalists went into ACORN’s Baltimore office acting as a pimp and a prostitute in order to get tips on how to cheat their taxes, among other things.  Much to even my surprise, the two ACORN employees helped the two on everything they asked.  And though one did at one point say that their actions were illegal (She then said that she wouldn’t tell anyone, she didn’t even know as far as anyone else was concerned), the other encouraged her along and told her not to be ashamed of anything she did.  That’s pretty much the bare-bones of the story.

This is a real problem.  I’m not linking Barack Obama to this event in any way, but his ties to ACORN are deep: he used to be a lawyer for them and in December of 2007 he told a gathering of ACORN members that their input would be used during his term in office.  Not only that, but ACORN was listed in the stimulus package for a nice sum of nearly $10 billion.  So let’s sort this out one more team: a government funded organization that has full support of our COMMANDER IN CHIEF gives tax cheating advice to prostitutes.  That’s pretty much all there is to say.

I’m sure more revelations will present themselves before this story runs its course.  However, if you want to see anything at all about the developments you’ll have to tune into Fox News.  I’m not just saying that because Fox News is the only cable news channel that reports the news.  I’m saying it because as I type this post, the only news channel that has reported even one word about it is Fox News.  Not one mention by CNN, MSNBC, HLN, or any other news channel.  This is big, big news, how can they expect to remain credible when they haven’t covered it in any way?

As I said earlier, I’m sure we’ll hear more from this story and I’ll be here to keep you updated with my opinion along the way.  Voice your concerns directly to ACORN by looking up your states office and phone number here.  If the Mainstream Media isn’t putting the pressure on them, someone’s got too.

Participate in our ACORN themed blog contest by clicking here.

**Piece of irony: A friend of mine in Mississippi text me today and said: “Funny thing is, our ACORN office is on Hooker Street.”  Just a bit of humor to keep you from going insane now that you know your tax payer dollars could be going to help prostitutes evade their taxes.

Glenn Beck’s EARTHSHATTERINGLY HUGE Story: Don’t Forget to Tune-in Tomorrow at 5 PM/4 PM CST!

Oh man, Glenn Beck is on a roll lately.  He successfully lead the charge to get rid of nutjob Van Jones, and now he’s got an even bigger story that he plans to release tomorrow during his Fox News show.  The story is so big, in fact, that Glenn says we won’t be talking about healthcare anymore after tomorrow and people will go to jail.  He was very ambiguous with everything he said today, but he did show a short clip that said “SEX” and then it had some clips of a girl with a blurred out face saying something about “male clients”.  Could this be reminscent of the late 90s with Clinton and Lewinsky?

I’ve searched all over the internet this afternoon trying to find some more hints as to what his big story will be about so readers of The Conservative Journal could be ahead of the game, but Glenn and his crew have done a great job keeping everything hidden until the big air-date.

Tomorrow we’ll all see what he has dug up for us this time and if it truly is enough to send people to jail and get our minds off of healthcare.

Tune in tomorrow at 5 PM/ 4 PM CST on Fox News Channel to catch the earthshattering story.

Thoughts From Around the Blogosphere: Reaction to Van Jones’s Resignation and Controversy

I haven’t done one of these in a while, but there so much fun so I’m about to start again.  For those that don’t know how this works, I google blogsearch “Van Jones” and take a random sampling of the results and clip out important bits, as well as throw in some of my favorite bloggers’ thoughts.  Here’s the blogosphere’s reaction to the resignation of former green jobs advisor, Van Jones:

DPGI- the aftermath

Just put Bush’s name in any of these stories – war, spending, personal associations, agenda, czars, “dictatorship” – and then, recall the panty-twisting furor of the Left from the past eight years. Kind of telling to see the sand in their crotch was Bush, not what Bush did because Obama is following Bush’s path in many ways.

Quipster

The special adviser for green jobs at the White House Council on Environmental Quality apparently believes that his past actions are being used as “lies and distortions,” and are not worthy of scrutiny for the special government position he enjoyed.

Citizens Against Pro-Obama Media Bias

They ranted on and on about the “birthers” and compared them to the “truthers” and lo and behold one of barry’s special advisors is a truther…to begin with.

The Transporter

Van Jones resigns as President Obamas green jobs czar. All I can think of to say is not soon enough, not soon enough. The president should check into the backgrounds of some people before he hires them to save the embarrassment.

Newsreal (I strongly recommend reading this article, it’s one of my favorites regarding Jones)

The point is not that President Obama will not tolerate people with Van Jones’ views to serve in his administration: he obviously will, because he did and he defended Jones to the bitter end. The point is Jones is becoming part of Obama’s increasingly familiar pattern: associate with radical leftists, give them as much power and prominence as possible in their own right, and disavow them only if they begin to hurt your ability to radicalize the system from within.

The Political Inquirer

One down a whole administration yet to go.

Citizen Obie

Van Jones made a mistake. Van Jones did and said some things I think he probably regrets. In fact, I know he does, because he said so. But where I see a mistake, Glenn Beck and the rightist bloggers who carried out this campaign saw an opportunity to tar and feather (and yes, that image is deliberate) the very symbol of the green jobs movement, and to characterize that movement, and by extension the presidency, as a communist cabal intent on imposing a reverse-racist tyranny on good Christian straight White Americans.

Betsy’s Page

How viciously sneaky of the right wing. They dared to use the man’s own words against him.

All American Blogger

I’m not saying I had anything to do with this, but I did write one heck of a blogosphere roundup on the matter.

California Conservative

Conservatives often joke that the Left’s definition of a dirty campaign is using their words against them. That seems to fit with Van Jones’ resignation letter.

The Lonely Conservative

Despite the fact that the MSM completely ignored the news of Van Jones’s past, the radical commie Green Jobs Czar has quit. And of course he’s blaming it on the folks who had the nerve to dig up his past. Not that it was hard.

Glenn Beck

The American people stood up and demanded answers. Instead of providing them, the Administration had Jones resign under cover of darkness.
