Hey, Maybe If Students Hear it From Barack They’ll Listen?- A Conservative In Favor of Barack’s Speech

Barack to School!

Barack to School!

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been avoiding the issue of Barack’s big speech to school across the nation.  Why you ask?  Well, I’m not in school, nor do I have kids who are, so it really just isn’t high on my priorities.  Today, however, I did find time to read (skim) the transcript.  I mean, I had to; it is the most controversial speech since the last time Van Jones spoke.

What I found was not controversial, not threatening, and definitely not reminiscent of Nazi Germany (Yes, a friend of mine did say that today).  Now, I’m the last person you’d expect to take up for B.O., but I just don’t see the harm.  It’s a speech that covers everything anyone in the school system has been taught since day 1; try hard, do right, and don’t drop out.  I’d feel the same way if anyone else was giving a speech with an identical transcript.  It’s just not that earthshatteringly important of a speech.

Having said that, this speech could be beneficial if the right people see it.  Many children look up to Barack, for reasons beyond my comprehension.  But for whatever reason, they do.  Hearing those same words that have been drilled into their heads since pre-k from him may be the extra push they need.  And while it’s not going to save America’s youth and slash the drop-out rate by a considerable amount, it’s certainly going to help more students than it will hurt.  So take it from this die-hard Conservative; don’t get to worked over this speech.  Sure it’ll take a few minutes out of the day, but it’s not like any classroom in this country works bell-to-bell.  And even if it does take class time, if it even helps one person to stay in school and get an education then it was worth it in my book.

Vote in Today’s Poll of the Day about the speech controversy by clicking here.

DISCLAIMER: As I said earlier, I don’t have children in the school system, so I’m sure parents look at this from a different perspective.  I certainly don’t think my opinion is the governing power.  If you see the situation from a different point of view, let me know below in the comments or send me an e-mail at theconservativejournal@gmail.com.

Video of the Day: Paramore Singing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon

Here’s a great video of Haley Williams of Paramore singing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.  I love the song in its original form, but Haley Williams is a great vocalist so I like this as well.  It’s a different, softer take on the original.  Watch below:

What do you think of this version of the song compared with the original?

College Football: It’s time.

Because I know I am.  College Football is really the only sporting event I follow closely (Not the NFL, though, because they’re all overpaid and full of themselves.  These are college kids playing to have fun. For the most part).  I mean I watch the other stuff, but something about college football just makes me go crazy.  So for my first attempt at blogging about sports I’m going to post my thoughts about games from each week, as well as post a separate prediction post of each game scheduled that week.  We’ll see how it goes, but I’m pumped about it.  If anyone has any suggestions or requests, as always feel free to e-mail me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com.

For reasons stated below, I plan to follow these teams closely this year:

  • LSU (Can’t stand the school or the team, but they make for entertaining games)
  • Mississippie University (AKA Ole Miss.  Again, can’t stand the school or team, but I’ll be interested to see how they do after a season last year that exceeded all expectations.
  • Georgia (‘Dis my team)
  • Penn State (I just like this school for some reason)
  • University of Southern Mississippi (I have family that lives in the area and loves their team.  Don’t know toomuch about them other than their coach is from Oklahoma State.

So there’s the list for now, I’m sure it will change as the season actually get’s going.  Look for my first post about this weekend’s games either Sunday or Monday.  Also, I’m still trying to think of a catchy title for this miniseries.  I love those titles!

Who are you following closely this year?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

DUmmies Exposed: Let’s Kill Babies to Cut Costs!

Yes, there are some people in this country that sincerely think the government should fund abortions to cut national healthcare spending.  Here is a direct quote from the original poster of a thread titled “It makes no sense for any health plan to not pay 100% of the cost of an abortion” (found here) at Democratic Underground:

If a child is born to a subscriber of a plan the child is going to cost the plan money, providing for abortions saves a health plan (government, private or hybrid) costs.

Though some on the forum did express their disagreement with this sentiment, there were plenty of people that “completely agreed”.  How people even think this way is beyond me.  Human life comes before cutting a few thousand dollars off the government budget.  Better yet, why not just bypass the trillions of dollars of extra debt and not have govnerment run healthcare.  That eliminates the problem of having to kill off a few babies to have money leftover to buy the Obama kids another playground.

What do you think of this bright star on the moral horizon?

DUmmies Exposed: Bipartisanship Means Follow Barack

Democratic DUmmies from the DUmp

I found this in the DUmmy thread over at Conservative Underground.  In the eyes of this moonbat, bipartisanship cooperation means meeting the Democrats “halfway” at 70-30, meaning 70% what the Dems want and 30% what Republicans want.  When people seriously think that is the case, there is real problem.  Here is the original post, though vulgarities have been edited for this site:

The Republicans need to understand what bipartisanship means in the Age of Obama.
Edited on Mon Apr-27-09 05:29 PM by Drunken Irishman
It’s not the middle. The American people have rebuked the Republican ideology in two elections now and don’t want to go back to it for the foreseeable future. So when Eric Cantor and others talk about bipartisanship, they must realize the ideological shift that accompanied this country with the election of the Democrats in 2006 and Pres. Obama in 2008.

That means bipartisanship begins left of center. Obama’s stimuls is what the American people voted for, not the same old failed policies of the Bush era. If they want to compromise with Pres. Obama, they have got to realize that compromise comes on his terms, not theirs. That’s what the American people want and that’s what they’re going to get, no matter how much Republicans complain.

So sorry, Mr. Cantor, bipartisanship means you actually have to meet the President at no worse than 70-30, because that’s the political climate facing this country. If you can’t accept that, then maybe you should find out why the American people continue to reject Republican ideals and fix it to the point where you can get back into power.

And if you can’t do that, then just sit down and shut the f*** up.

Here’s another “open-minded” liberal:

1. They have two options
1. Negotiate from a position of weakness and get whatever they can scratch out
2. Be shut out of the process altogether.

That’s one of my favorite hypocracies fromt he left; that they are the “open-minded” political.  Their open-mindedness stops at the party line.  Here’s yet another:

4. And that’s why the Republicans are out of power.
They’re tone deaf, I swear.

Americans have buried Reagan and all he stood for with the election of Barack Obama.

Maybe that’s it. Maybe they can’t get over that Obama killed their hero.

haha, I love it!

That would make more sense if the election results were split 70/30, but thankfully they were not.  Bipartisan cooperation is an equal effort on both sides, or at least something a lot closer than 70/30.  I’m sure that in a few years when Republicans are back in power as the Democrats are now these people’s views will be much, much different.

Swine Flu: Never Fear, You Can Still Eat Bacon!

This bacon is perfectly safe for consumption.

This bacon is perfectly safe for consumption.

Your Bacon Is Safe

After seeing days and days of swine flu converage, I kept asking the same question:  CAN I EAT THE BACON??  Well, I am pleased to report that today I heard on the radio that you can in fact eat bacon, as well as any other pork product you’re craving.  So, next time you hear someone on the news talking about how swine flu is threatening to wipe out humanity, just remember that you can still eat bacon.  That’s gauranteed to raise the mood at least 5 points.

Just What Is this Swine Influenza?

Now that I know the bacon is safe, I can begin actually looking at the illness part.  As far as I can tell, this is no different than the seasonal flu, other than the fact that we have no vaccine.  The swine flu can, however, be treated with conventional methods, such as Tamaflu.  So why is everyone freaking out?  Well, I’m not really sure.  Thousands die annually in the U.S. because of the seasonal flu, but so far the swine flu has killed only 1 in the U.S., and about 160 in Mexico.  So the swine flu is no more dangerous than the regular old flu that everyone gets at least once in their life.  I’m no doctor, but from everything I’ve seen and read, there really isn’t much reason to be in a wad about this.  However, the media, the fact that this virus is coming at a time that we aren’t used to having the flu, and the “special name” are all playing a part in this mass hysteria.

The Reason(s) the World is Holding It’s Breathe

Just a rule of thumb:  Take what you hear on the news and divide it by 2.  They very rarely resist from embellishing situations and causing wide spread panic.  It doesn’t help that the World Health Organization has elevated it’s “pandemic” threat level to 5 (there are only 6 steps).  I googled around and could find very little info on this rating, but I did gather that the seasonal flu, the one that kills thousands annually, doesn’t even get a rating.  They just skip over and the scale to “seasonal” status.  So technically, the season flu could kill 90% of the world and still be marked “seasonal”, putting it at a lower level than the swine flu that has killed less than 200.  Like I said, I’m no expert, but this doesn’t seem to add up.  If anyone has an additional info, please let me know!

Another factor playing into the hysteria is the simple fact that we aren’t used to having flu cases in April and into May.  Whether we realize it or not, we get into a routine in everything we do.  It’s ingrained into all of our memory banks that when fall/winter come around, the flu begins as well.  It’s the same with the avian (bird) flu of several years ago.  It never caused any problems, but produced lots of panic throughout the globe just because we weren’t used to it and didn’t know how to react.  This is no different.

Finally, the special name of swine flu seems to just send shivers down our spines.  The other day I was talking to a friend of mine and mentioned the swine flu.  He had little to no prior knowledge of the illness, but the very word worried him.  I can assure, he’s not the only that has ever done that.  I would be willing to bet that if we called the seasonal flu “homo-sapien flu” or “humanoid influenza”, there would be much more of a worlwide stir every year, or at least the first we changed the name.  It’s similar to the point above, we just aren’t used to this.

Bottom Line

Don’t get your britches in a wad over the swine flu!  You can still eat bacon, and it’s not more severe than the regular seasonal flu.  It’s been hyped beyond belief and it’s freaking out America and the world.  Just like bird flu of years past, this will fade and we will still be hear.  Just use common sense when in public (wash your hands, avoid the restroom, etc.  Stuff that you should do anyway).  If you have survived the regular flu, you have the same chance of surviving the swine flu on the off chance you become infected.

Hope this helps and thanks for reading!

Goodbye Arlen.

I know this is “No Politics Tuesday”, but it would just be disrespectful to ole Arlen to not bid him farewell.

Dear Arlen,

Don’t feel bad for switching over to the dark side.  We have no use for you here.  I’d much rather you be happy with the Dems and vote for pork and such than be infuriating us here on the right.  Next time a stimulus comes up for a vote (it’s about time for a new, don’t you think?), you can guiltlessly vote away!  We will not miss you any more than you will miss us.  Hope the weather’s nice on the left!

Thanks again for leaving,

P.S. While you’re packing up your cubicle at the Republican Headquarters, could you please encourage Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe to follow you out the door?  That’d be great.

What do you think about Arlen shipping out?  Leave your comments below or e-mail us at theconservativejournal@gmail.com

TCJ Honorary Plaque of Fail: Barack Obama and Gang

Dear Barack and Posse,

The city of New York and the entire United States ask that you please refrain from joy riding around in Air Force One at only hundreds of feet of above the ground.  We realize that we didn’t have any pictures of you in flying past The Statue of Liberty or Trump Towers, but please.  At least tie a banner to the back of the plan that says, “GOOD MORNING NEW YORK!  IT’S B.O. UP IN THIS PLANE”, or something to that effect.  We’ve even included a reference for you for the next time you want to take scenic shots of Manhattan:

Barack, we expect to see this next time. Thank you.

Barack, we expect to see this next time. Thank you.

Anything less than that will be a disappointment.

The United States, excluding Frank-Pelosi-Reid.

For Barack and crew’s display of ignorance we award them with the “Honorary Plaque of Fail”, which even includes a place in the Hall of Fame!  This award is extra ironic because Barack was the first recipient of the “TCJ Seal of Approval” back when he took out those pirates in an efficient manner.  Well, in accordance to the law of gravity, what comes up must come down, and Barack’s status as upstanding member of society did just (Intentional exaggeration.  Don’t e-mail me about it.) that when he approved the flight of the Boeing 747 that flew low through the skies of Manhattan just so the White House Gift Shop could update its Statue of Liberty post card section.  The trip not only horrified many New Yorkers, but it cost (and wasted) millions of tax payer dollars.  And while “millions” of dollars is nothing in the grand scheme of the government budget, it’s the principal of the matter.  And for that, Barack and the gang, we tip our DUNCE caps to you.

What do you think of the flight through Manhattan?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com!
