American Idol Top 5 Recap

Sorry it’s late, but here’s the recap of tonight’s top 5 as I’m watching it!  Enjoy.

Tonight’s theme is songs from the Rat Pack, which means absolutely nothing to me.  So I have no expectations for this week; we’ll just have to see how everyone does.  Jamie Foxx is mentoring tonight (Not sure why.), but I’m sure he’ll have some good advice.  First up is…

Kris Allen singing “The Way You Look Tonight”.  Kris has a great voice, and as Jamie pointed out, doesn’t include all the crazy vocal stylings that make me not like Matt Giraud.  This performance is traditional Kris; straight-forward, well sang, etc.  There was only janky little high note, but overall it was a great performance.  Kris could be the upset to the preordained Danny-Adam finale.  We can only hope.  Randy thought it was his best performance to date, Kara thinks he is truly a dark horse, Paula thought it was near impeccable, and Simon said he wasn’t as enthusiastic and didn’t get the feeling he could win the competition.  Next up is…

Allison Iraheta singing “Someone To Watch Over Me”.  Allison reveals in her little chat with Ryan that she just turned 17 yesterday.  Well good Allison!  That just serves to remind us how incredible your voice is for your age.  Wow, this performance is incredible!  I think that was truly flawless.   Her final little note/run was beautiful.  Very, very impressive.  If the judges aren’t all over this, the show’s fixed.  Randy says it’s like Pink, but with 9,000 more octaves; Kara said she’s not nervous for Allison anymore after that; Paula said she’d been waiting for and was very proud of her; and Simon has a horrible feeling she is in trouble.  WHAT??  Come on, Simon!  She wouldn’t be in trouble had you not said that.  Gosh.  Next up is…

Matt Giraud singing “My Funny Valentine”.  Gosh, I just don’t like Matt at all.  He does way to many annoying runs throughout every song.  It’s absurd.  He seems pumped about this week, so maybe it’ll be good.  The beginning was rough, but it gets a little better.  Except for his voice is sounding really weird throughout the whole song; like how he’s pronouncing the words.  There are few good notes in there, but I wasn’t too crazy about the last night.  Not horrible, but not great either.  I didn’t really like it though.  Randy thought it was a little bit pitchy and didn’t all quite come together, “6 out of 10”; Kara appreciates the runs, but didn’t feel he was emotionally connected to it; Paula loved what he did with it and thought it was excellent; Simon disagreed with Randy (WHAT?) and thought it was the only believable and authentic song he heard so far.  WHAT??  If Matt makes it through over Allison, it’s gonna be bad.  Next up is…

Danny Gokey singing “Come Rain, Come Shine”.  My first thought is why on earth is Lambert getting the pimp spot again?  It’s getting ridiculous.  On to this performance.  I loathe Danny Gokey.  I have no idea why, but everything about him puts me in a bad mood.  His singing isn’t bad or anything, he just bothers me.  I have nothing to fault with his singing; it’s actually quite good.  I just don’t like him.  Nope.  But the performance, or singing at least, is good.  Probably one of his best vocals so far, though the band kind of drowns him out at the end.  Randy thought he was the only so far that could have an album of songs like that and win (win what?), Kara thought he had swag (moron), Paula said “stellar”, and Simon agreed with Kara, rambled for a bit, then said it was outstanding.  Next up is…

Adam Lambert singing “Feeling Good”.  I wonder which Adam we’ll see today?  Crazy or Relaxed?  His clothes aren’t giving any hints so we’ll just have to wait for the singing.  From the little rehearsal bit, I think it’s going to be a mixture of the two.  This is really weird just altogether.  It’s weird like “Ring of Fire” a few weeks ago.  It seemed really short too.  But once again, I can’t fault the singing.  He held that final note for a ridiculous amount of time.  He’s techinically probably one of the best singers the show’s ever had, it’s just not my thing.  Randy thought it was a little too theatrical, but said he was in the zone; Kara said he’s shocking and superb and way over the top and crazy; Paula compared him to Michael Phelps; Simon says he clearly wants to win and said that complaining abou thim being theatrical is like complaining a cow moos.  Funny one Simon.

That wraps up tonight’s show!  Tomorrow we can hopefully say goodbye to Matt Giraud, but we’ll just have to see.

Thanks for reading!

Rick
