Thrilling Thursdays Giveaway: You Could Win Glenn Beck’s New Book, “Arguing With Idiots!”

First off, thanks to all those who participated in last weeks “Thrilling Thursdays” Giveaway, the turn out was great and as long as participation stays high I’ll be able to do this weekly.  This week will require a little more brain power, but not by much.  Here are the details:

  • This contest is only open to Conservative Journal Deluxe Members.  As always, anyone is welcome to comment and send in questions/responses on articles, but only Deluxe Members who comment will be put into the drawing.  If you aren’t currently a member and would like to join, clickhere to read the details and become a member now!  It’s free and extremely easy to do.
  • To enter your name for a chance to win, all you have to do is e-mail me (theconservativejournal@gmail.com) what you think the top search term is for people visiting The Conservative Journal.  (I realizes that’s worded a little weirdly, but simply put you are trying to guess what word or phrase typed into Google sends the most visitors to The Conservative Journal).  If you don’t like to send e-mails, you are welcome to live your guess in a comment on this post, but just know that others can see your answers and that will decrease your chances of winning.
  • For this contest, you may submit answer PER DAY.  However, sending in the same answer daily will not increase your score because your name only goes in to the drawing one time, regardless.
  • Be sure and send your answer from the e-mail address you signed up for TCJ Deluxe with because that’s the only way I can contact you if you are the winner.
  • I realize there will probably be multiple right answers, and there will be 5 winners because of that.  If more than 5 guess correctly, however, each name will put into a drawing and the 5 names randomly selected will each win the prize.
  • As far as technicalities, each Deluxe Member is assigned a number in the database of members for all giveaways.  I will use random.org to generate a random number until the number of 5 users who guessed correctly are chosen.  Those users will be crowned the winners of this giveaway and will be notified through e-mail before I announce it on the site.  If the winners don’t respond to the “congratulations” e-mail and provide shipping addresses in 48 hours, I will generate another number and will notify the new winners.  If the new winners don’t claim his/her prize in 48 hours, I will keep the prize and use it in the next giveaway.

The Prize

Finally, the winners of this contest will each receive Glenn Beck’s latest book, “Arguing With Idiots.”  Thanks to a great friend of mine who owns a local bookstore, I’ve managed to purchase five of books for much cheaper than the retail value.

Highlights

Contest: Guess the most popular incoming search term for those visiting The Conservative Journal.
Time Frame: 10/1- 10/8
Open to: Conservative Journal Deluxe Members only
Prize: “Arguing With Idiots” by Glenn Beck

Gook luck and thank you to all who participate!

I love YouTube so much.  It provides infinite entertainment for me.  I found this gem today and it is truly life changing.  Today’s video of the day condenses the 100 greatest YouTube videos into a 4 minute ‘mega-video’.  Definitely worth the four minutes.  Watch below:

TCJ Journal Honorary Plaque of Fail: Jon Gosselin, ‘Kate Plus 8’

Gosselins:  take your family drama out of the spotlight and work things out.  It’s not right for your kids to let this all play out on national television.  Thank you.

Goodbye Jon.

Goodbye Jon.

It was announced today that Kate will continue “Jon and Kate Plus 8” under a new title; “Kate Plus 8,” and talk about raising 8 kids as a single mother during the show.  Interestingly enough, Jon Gosselin also released apology today for the way he’s treated Kate and even asking to halt the divorce.  Coincidence?  I think not.

I’d love to live in happy land where everything is innocent and good, but unfortunately I do not.  No one is naive enough to think that Jon Gosselin just happened to ask for forgiveness the day it was announced that he doesn’t have a job anymore.  I mean come on Jon, at least wait a week or two.  For being worthless, Jon Gosselin earns the TCJ Honorary Plaque of Fail and a place in the Hall of Fame.  Congrats Jon!

Having said that, Kate’s not off the hook either.  As a single mother, she needs to focus on raising her 8 children, not raising the ratings of her TV show.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely on her side (though she’s probably a bit of a control freak), I just can’t see how she’s going to have enough time to raise the kids and have a TV show about their lives, among other business ventures.

Additionally, the kids deserve some privacy.  They aren’t old enough to say, “I’m not doing this show,” so they’re forced to go along with if that’s what mommy wants.  I can’t imagine the difficulties of going through a regular divorce, and having that whole process play out in front of millions of viewers will make that about one million times worse for the kids.  So Kate, put your (well deserved) desire to get back at Jon aside and do what’s right for the kids.  I’m not going to give you a Fail Plaque yet, but you’re borderline.

What do you think of the Jon and Kate situation?  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

Video of the Day: Jenny Slate Lets the F Word Slip on SNL Premiere

Whoops!  I’m sure that’s what Jenny Slate has been thinking since she let the f-bomb slip on the premiere of Saturday Night Live.  To be quite honest, I didn’t even notice the slip-up when I watched it live on Saturday.  Here’s the video:

EnergyFLA UPDATE: Answering Your Questions About Energy FLA

This is the second part in the multi-part series detailing the EnergyFLA project.  In this post, I’ll answer the questions readers e-mailed to me regarding the first post.  To read the first post of the series that explains EnergyFLA, click here.

Q: Will the drills used to retrieve the oil be visible from the beach?  (Sandy R.)

A: Only if you’re looking for it through binoculars.  Temporary rigs will be built from 3 to 6 miles off of the shore, which will be far enough away to prevent visibility from the beach.  Also, technology has changed quite a bit since Florida last allowed offshore drilling in state waters.  The unsightly rigs of the late 80s have evolved into the nearly invisible rigs of today.  Don’t worry, the pristine views from the beach won’t be damaged at all.

Q: Gas prices are declining, so obviously supply is sufficient.  Why do we need more oil? (Robert M.)

A: While gas prices have decreased, it’s not because we’re producing more oil.  According to a study posted in the Washington Post, oil consumption nearly doubled production in the U.S., the biggest consumption vs. production gap in our nation’s history.  We turn to other suppliers for our oil; in fact, the U.S. is the number 1 oil importer in the world.

Q: Are we positive that oil is located off of Florida’s coasts? (Cindy C.)

A: Yes.  Some amount of oil is definitely located off of Florida’s coast.  Oil can be found in Jay and Blackjack oil fields, as well as in the Sunniland region.  In between these two areas are 4.5 million acres of unexplored ocean floor that experts believe could hold many more potential oil fields.  The goal of EnergyFLA is to explore potential areas oil and natural gas could be located.

Q: Will drilling hurt the sea life?  (Michael S.)

A: This is one of the most common misconceptions about offshore drilling.  States throughout the gulf manage to balance offshore drilling and a successful fishing industry.  Clearly, if it hasn’t caused a problem for the other gulf states, it wouldn’t cause a problem for Florida.

Q: I don’t live in Florida, why should I support this? (Steve L.)

A: That’s a great question.  Domestic offshore drilling will push the United States closer to energy independence.  We won’t have to rely on foreign nations to give us our energy because we’ll have it all here at home.  Domestic drilling also gives Americans the possibility for potentially lower gas prices.  Who wouldn’t won’t to pay a little less hard earned cash for gas?  Oh yeah, I’m not a resident of Florida either, but as you can see I realize the benefits this will have across the nation.

Q: How many jobs will this project create?  (Matt T.)

A: I think I covered this in the first post, but if you missed it I’ll review.  Offshore drilling in Florida will 20,000 additional permanent jobs.  When you factor in the manpower to get the drills going, you have 40,000 jobs created.  All of the additional jobs in addition to the increase in revenue will be a pleasant boost to Florida’s economy.

I still have several questions that I’ll save for another day, so if you have something you’d like to be answered, send it in!  I’ll be happy to answer it to the best of my ability.

Send in those questions!  Leave your comments below or send an e-mail to theconservativejournal@gmail.com.  Don’t forget to bookmark The Conservative Journal and sign up for the RSS Feed and the daily e-mail newsletter.

This Week at The Conservative Journal: September 27th- October 3rd

Sorry posting was so non-existent Friday and Saturday.  I was extremely busy with work and I didn’t have much free time.  But this week I should be back on schedule with regular posting.  Here’s a look at you can expect for the week ahead:

Sunday

  • I’m pretty much going to play catch up today and post the big stuff I was planning on posting at the end of last week but didn’t get to due to time constraints.  That means you can look for that “Fireside Chat” with a former Barack supporter, and some “Thrilling Thursday” posts.

Monday

  • Look for an addition to the “Hall of Fame”  in the form of a “Seal of Approval” and, if time permits, a response to last week’s EnergyFLA post that answers questions you’ve sent in.  I’ve had a great response to that so far, so if you want to have your question answered, send it to me at theconservativejournal@gmail.com!

Tuesday

  • If there’s any fresh garbage at the DUmp, look for a “DUmmies Exposed” post.  Considering it’s the DUmp, you can be sure they’ll do something post-worthy.

Wednesday

  • Be sure and stop by on Wednesday so you can check out what I’m checking out!  What blog or site will be featured next?  Stop by on Wednesday to find out!

Thursday

  • IT’S THRILLING THURSDAY EVERYBODY!!  I’ll be back on schedule to post recaps of The Office, Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live Weekend Update, Fringe, and possibly FlashForward.  I totally forget to record that one last week, so we’ll see if I like it.  Also, I’ll announce the winner of the comment/e-mailing contest and then lay down the details of the next “Thrilling Thursday” contest.

Friday

  • I’m going to go ahead and say it’ll probably just be regular scheduled posting, i.e. the daily posts.  If it turns out I’m free Friday, I’ll be sure to post away!

Saturday

  • Someone’s going to be inducted into the “Plaque of Fail” section of the Hall of Fame, so be sure and stop by with your pitch fork in hand to drive the village idiot into the cave of exile.  Or just read the post.  Whatever works.

Be sure and check out all the exciting things taking place this week at The Conservative Journal!

September 24th News Bits and Pieces: Chavez, Gun Control, Tylenol, and Carly Fiorina

I realize today’s Thrilling Thursday was all but thrilling.  My apologies for the lack of fun, I was out all day and finally got home at 8 o’clock.  Also, the music review has been changed to “brand new eyes” by Paramore and will be posted on Saturday.  Next week will be back to normal, I promise!

News and Politics

U.N. ‘doesn’t smell of sulfur anymore,’ says Chavez

My philosophy: if it makes Chavez happy, don’t do it.  Alright, so that’s not really my philosophy, but we should be a little nervous that these hostile foreign leaders are excited with the Obama presidency and even want him to be the “indefinite leader.”

Bullet Makers ‘Working Overtime’ in US

Yeah, people really do fear that their guns are going to be forcefully removed from their posession.  I don’t own any guns, but I wouldn’t be worried about that if I did.  Barack and gang are too busy working on “healthcare reform” to dabble in things such as a gun ban.  That, and it’s not constitutional.

21 Tylenol Children’s meds recalled

This is why I don’t take medicine unless it’s one million percent necessary.  Basic Tylenol or Advil is just not necessary and it destroys your liver.

Fiorina’s new Web site bashed by Democrats, Republicans

I wasn’t aware that appearance of campaign websites was so important.  I visited the site and I don’t see any problem with it.  It’s fun and happy, and you definitely remember it.  Isn’t that a good thing?

September 23rd News Bits and Pieces: Mackenzie Phillips, ACORN, Swine Flu, and Michael Jackson

News and Politics

Giant Squid Found in Gulf, Oregon

Gah, that thing is huge!  I wish there were more people in the private sector who were willing to search for creatures as fascinating as the giant squid.  If I had unlimited money, I’d be sure and set apart a good portion of it to search for bizarre creatures like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot.

Palin Knocks Fed in Hong Kong Speech

I’m glad to hear that those who got to see the speech felt like she at least knew what she was talking about.  My rational mind is telling me otherwise, but I just want to believe that Sarah Palin is still a viable candidate for the presidency.  I’m sure I’ll take flack for this from the more center-left-of-center readers (if there are any), but I do think she’d be a great president if she spent a few years in the senate getting more familiar with foreign affairs and the technicalities of the office of the presidency.  But then again, I’m overly optimistic.

ACORN Sues Filmmakers

I sure hope this lawsuit proves unsuccessful because then I’ll lose all faith in our government.  I figured ACORN would pursue the lawsuit, but I’m just hoping the judge it appears before has enough sense to send it back out the door.

CNN’s Gupta Gets H1N1 Flu in Afghanistan

Someone forget to cough into his arm rather than his hand!

Mackenzie Phillips Reveals She Slept With Her Own Father

This really is a shame.  It’s hard to imagine that someone could get so into drugs that she has a 10 year affair with her father.  I wish Mackenzie the best and hope that hopefully she’s cleaned up her act.  If I’m remembering correctly she had a very interesting singing voice, and I hope she hasn’t totally lost it.

New Michael Jackson Single, ‘This Is It,’ Out On October 12

I don’t really know how I feel about a song being released after the artists death.  Chances are I won’t like the song anyway so it doesn’t really matter.
